Greene County Lifestyle

Relaxing. One simple word describes the Greene County lifestyle. From the rolling hills of the east to the scenic vistas of the west, this natural oasis is breath taking.

Greene County is home to some of the finest natural amenities available. Fishing, camping, hunting, picnicking, mushroom hunting, horseback riding, photography, wildlife viewing, and archery are some of reasons Greene County embodies a place where people go to connect to nature's beauty. This natural beauty is what makes it a place of refuge and relaxation.

To participate in the outdoor recreation of Greene County, residents and visitors utilize places like the Greene-Sullivan State Forest and the Goose Pond. Campers from all over fill up sites at Greene-Sullivan State Forest and engulf themselves in nature's corridor to serenity. Birdwatchers, hunters and photographers will find an astonishing diversity of wildlife at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area regardless of the time of year.

In partnership with nature, Greene County also represents a small town with friendly faces and a laid back atmosphere. Strolling down Main Street you will find unique shops and outstanding eateries. Antiques, home décor, locally produced jewelry and wildflower honey are a few ways to describe the distinctive shopping. Dining at places like the Amish Buffet, the Pepperoni Grill, Cinco de Mayo and Francisco de Borja Coffee, to name a few; make Greene County feel like home to all.

Greene County has been described as a great little piece of America with a special feel, a place that most wouldn't believe still existed. Kerry Conway of the Greene County Community Foundation said, "I live at the bottom of a karsts hillside with 3 acres of land. I am surrounded by stone walking paths and I start my day with my morning coffee and a walk; it's wonderful to be surrounded by this kind of beauty." This Mayberry of the Midwest is nothing short of refreshing. Centrally located between wonderful neighboring counties, Greene County is culturally, educationally, and historically prominent.

For twenty-nine years Greene County has had the Roy Clark and Friends Community Festival which includes a Roy Clark and Friends show, a celebrity dinner at the Greene County Shrine Club, and a two-day Phil Harris Golf Tournament. This tradition is the kick-off event for other Greene County festivals, summer theater, horseback riding, outdoor sports and summertime par-excellence.

It's a place to get away, to let go, to recognize the beauty that surrounds us. Home to friendly people, picturesque surroundings, home town businesses, and nature's retreat, Greene County is a way of life.
